COLOR WALK

2019

Open your eyes and turn out the lights.

Color walk is a graphic built for the song “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday. The lyrics of “Strange Fruit” paint a very vivid picture of a time period in American history that in many ways is still applicable today. Music allows a person to feel and experience life in ways that aren’t possible without it. Good music can be like a black hole: a black hole of contemplation widening the individual's perception of life. Instruments and lyrics are used to draw the listener in and then hold them captive. So why not use graphic art as another means of keeping the individual's attention? The building of the graphic is very specific to the song itself. “Color Walk” uses imagery of a distorted tree and a fiery sky to show how, when human nature is unjust, nature itself changes. This piece is the start of a series that studies how music and visual art combine to create a more emotional experience.
