The Woowoo Suit
Immerse yourself into a more physical experience of music. Listen to your favorite songs and the suit will amplify the high and low frequencies of the music and send vibrations throughout your body. Suit up underneath your clothes and explore the world with a whole new side of music.
THE SKIN
The woowoo suit is made of a combination of spandex and rayon material. The final product sits close to your skin but doesn’t compress it. The suit is meant to be flexible and light so that it can be worn almost like a second skin so over time the user forgets its there. On the sides of the chest and stomach the suit will feature a porous mesh like spandex fabric that will provide an adequate amount of airflow. The suit will also feature a waterproof housing system allowing the user to get wet without the worry. The suit is truly an attempt to create a smart and useful technology that can seamlessly be integrated into daily life.
THE BRAIN
Where this suit gets interesting is the technology embedded inside it. The woowoo suit features a custom PCB that enables the user to pair the suit with their cellular device through bluetooth. The seamless action of being able to connect your devices to the wearable technology without physical wires opens the door to many other possible applications for the suit.
The concept design for this piece of clothing utilizes an Arduino Uno R3, RN-52 Bluetooth Breakout Board, Spark-fun 7 Band Spectrum Shied, and multiple vibration motors. The final hardware design will be compacted into a single board with one battery so that the actual feeling of the PCB will be almost un-noticeable. The design will utilize a flexible PCB board on the chest of the wearer. This area of the body should have the least amount of contact with a surface when working out or being physical. Branching out from the PCB will be 10 vibration motors in various places across the body including the legs, side of stomach, chest, arms and back. This will allow the user to have a full body experience while listening to music. However, what’s most interesting about this suit’s technology is that it could support new applications that could be integrated into the functionality of the existing suit.
THE FUTURE
This suit can bring the concert experience to everyday life, but that is just that start. Wearable technology is about solving problems. The woowoo suit has a future in many fields and here are a few examples of how I see it being used.
A navigation suit for the visually impaired. Using infrared technology and 3D mapping allow the suit to communicate with the user about its surroundings so the user can move freely without obstruction.
A navigation suit for a motorcycle rider so that they don’t have to look at their phone while they're riding. Vibrations can add a sense of directionality.
A personal trainer. A complimentary app could be built to hold data regarding correct form and posture for specific workout exercises. The suit could learn the proper way to do these exercise and correct you when you are wrong on either form, speed or repetition.
